The Hub At Henley
Henley in Arden's Local Youth & Community Centre
There has been a Youth and Community Centre in Henley since the early 1970’s. Prior to that the landlordof the Golden Cross let youngsters hang out in the backroom of the pub! Originally run as part of the secondaryschool, responsibility was transferred to WarwickshireCounty Council in the late 70s before the Local Authorityfunding cuts led to the closure of the centre in 2012.
Not happy with the loss of a valuable town resource, the residents of Henley worked tirelessly to raise fundsand recruit volunteers enabling The Henley-in- ArdenWar Memorial Trust to take over the management of theHub that same year. The Trust appointed paid youth leaders but the remainder of the organisation andmanagement fell to volunteers.
Since 2016 The Hub has been run by a group ofdedicated trustees and volunteers and a new trust was formed. In 2018 the management roles were allocated to paid officials with the appointment of a paid part time Executive Officer and eight part time assistants.
As set out in The Hub's Mission Statement we continue to strive to benefit the residents of Henley-in-Arden and the neighbourhood in a common effort to advance education and to provide facilities in theinterests of social welfare for recreation and leisuretime with the objective of improving the conditions oflife for the residents and safeguarding the community. The Hub is open from 9.00am – 9.00pm 5 days a week with additional weekend activities. We cater for mums and babies, young people from 9 – 18 and senior citizens. We also provide a 24 hour helpline to those who need it, sometimes signposting to specific assistance where needed. There is also a free IT support network. Every week some 200 people come through our front door. We are entirely self-funding raising, this year, £70,000 to ensure that none of our beneficiaries miss out on their essential requirements. This is done without local authority finance. We thank the Comedy Group and Lodders’ solicitors for supporting us and hope that our local community will enjoy this eagerly anticipated event at the Memorial Hall on the 18th February 2022.
