Laughter, the funny way to mindfulness
Updated: Feb 25

There’s no doubt that meditation and mindfulness are incredible ways of improving our health and wellbeing. I’m a huge fan and practice meditation on a daily basis.
Sometimes though, it feels really difficult to still the mind. There have been times when my stress levels are high and my mind is super busy, whether I like it or not.
Laughter is an alternative way for us to get into the moment. When we are laughing, we aren’t thinking about anything else. It's like escaping from the 'to-do list' for a while. Plus it's pretty difficult to feel stressed when you are roaring with laughter.
Being in the moment, is just one of the many benefits of having a good laugh. According to the Mayo Clinic, there are many other health benefits which include:
In the short term laughter:
Increases your intake of oxygen, stimulating many organs
it fires up and then cools down your stress response, resulting in a good, relaxed feeling
Stimulates circulation and aids muscle relaxation.
In the long term it:
Improves you immune system
Relieves pain
& Improves your mood.
So if you are having that day when meditation and mindfulness just seem out of reach, then having a really good laugh is a great alternative way to silence those thoughts for a while.
